Recap: Live Shaun T Workout

Shaun TLast fall, my husband bid on the chance to attend a live workout with Shaun T “sometime in May 2014” on the Microsoft main campus here in Redmond. He’s worked at Microsoft for nearly 14 years and donated money every year as part of the Giving Campaign.

I remember so well when he asked me if it was okay to bid on the auction — I was like “ummm, yeah, as long as I can come and watch.” So he bid on one of the spots, and he won!

The date was finalized last month, and on Wednesday May 21st, we went to the Commons for the workout. As we approached the space, I secretly crossed my fingers that I was going to workout (why didn’t I wear workout shoes???)

We joined the group of people chatting with Scott — he was wearing an XBox Fitness jacket and I’m not sure everyone knew who he was! I think I was equally excited to meet him — I mean, it’s not often you get to meet the “man behind the man.” And frankly, he’s awesome in his own right — you have read his {only} post over on ShaunTFitness.com, right?

When Shaun T came to join the conversation, he told me that I looked nervous. I was like “no, excited” and then he asked if I was going to be working out too. I was wearing my running skirt and a workout tank with sandals — I motioned to the sandals and he said we’re working out on carpet, go barefoot.

So I did! I got to workout with Shaun T too!

Working out with Shaun TSo the workout was in the style of Insanity Live Classes, but created just for this event. We started innocently enough with a moderate warm up and then BAM the workout intensified, dramatically! I kinda wish I had just watched it because I would have taken detailed notes on what we actually did… but then I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to get lightheaded and nearly pass out 3/4 of the way through, right?

The workout included a great abs section at the end. We did about 8 exercises ranging from c-sits to plank variations. I love focused core work which really helps me get to the end of a workout. That was no exception here – Shaun T delivered in spades.

One of the best things about doing a live workout with Shaun T, versus his awesome DVD programs, is that he can tweak the workout as he goes along, to get the best workout in for each and every person who is there. It’s 100% group personal training. Shaun comes around and pushes you a little further and corrects your form and checks your core strength. He says it so well on his blog:

When I am in your presence at live events, I FEEL your energy! I literally feel as if I am lifted up and elevated, not above human but into a world that only exists if you allow yourself to be free from who you want others to believe you are and transcend into a world allowing yourself to be what YOU want to be.

I listened to my body

I nearly passed out, but I didn’t because I paused.

I’m not quite sure what caused episode, whether it was the intense workout, not enough fuel beforehand (remember, I wasn’t planning on doing this workout!) or just my own physical limitations. It’s so hard for me to listen to my body… I mean sure, my leg hurt a bit, so I modified when I had to and pushed through when I could.

I cannot pinpoint one thing in the workout that made me sit down, get some juice and pause… I just did.

It sucks to modify when you have a celebrity trainer watching you! I didn’t want to “baby my leg” or “wimp out” but it is far better to modify when needed then to get hurt or black out.

Motivation above all else

Post Workout with Shaun TI walked around after the workout with a perma-grin and my giving bucket was overflowing. I wanted to take that energy and do something powerful with it.

So, in my own way, I’m taking a bit of that Shaun T energy and giving it to others… I’m running a Shaun T Challenge Group starting on June 9th. I’m limiting the group to 10 people in order to be able to give each participant exactly what they need to succeed.

Shaun T’s programs are Hip Hop Abs, Rockin’ Body, Insanity, Asylum and Focus T25. <– those are links to the challenge packs, because committing to a month of Shakeology is a sure-fire boost to program success.

Join my challenge group before May 31st, and I’ll send you a special gift!

Have you ever worked out with a celebrity trainer? If so, what was your experience like? If not, who would you want to workout with and why? Comment below — I’d love to know about your experiences!
